Blended Learning 101
Flipping the classroom has been a trend in recent years and one which serves the blended model well. When we provide students with online resources for outside of class time, we give them more choice over time, place and pace in their learning. Once they learn content, this model then frees up class time for students to apply concepts with a teacher's guidance.
While providing a video or teacher-made screencast for students to view on their own has benefits, it is lacking in feedback we receive when delivering a lesson in person. We therefore need to check for understanding to ensure each student understands the material prior to advancing to student centered activities.
The lessons below cover the basics of blended learning with embedded feedback and checks for understanding. Using a free web app called Blendspace, I created these lessons for others to complete anytime, anywhere, at their own pace.
